Beehive Base - Deep
Made right here at Waggle & Forage in Kyneton, our new deep beehive bases are inspired by a well respected local beekeeper and mentor, Jim.
Jim's bases (also known as bottom boards) fit a standard Langstroth beehive, come with an entrance closure and have a 45mm pine rim.
Beekeepers often use deep bottom boards to allow bees to build their drone cells at the bottom of each frame. This way, the drone cells are easily scraped away during an inspection and there is more likely to be full frames of honey, brood and pollen.
Our deep bases have a pine rim that has been hot-wax-dipped and painted with a premium oil based enamel. The feet are cypress (also painted) and the bottom board itself is Weathertex. The entrance closure is galvanised steel.
