Monitor and manage Varroa mite infestations in your beehives with our Beehive Sticky Mats. These mats are designed to assist in tracking natural mite drop, an essential method for monitoring external parasites like Varroa mites, Tropilaelaps mites, and Braula flies. Simply place a sticky mat on the bottom board of your hive and ensure it sits under stainless steel 3mm mesh (to stop the bees from eating and removing the mat). Leave it for 48 hours. Upon removal, you can easily examine the mat for any fallen mites, providing a quick and non-invasive way to assess your hive's health.
While the use of miticides can enhance this method by increasing mite drop, our sticky mats are also effective on their own, especially when used as part of a broader surveillance strategy. This technique is recommended for all beekeepers as it requires minimal equipment and preserves the life of your bees. Keep in mind that additional strategies like drone uncapping, alcohol washes and sugar shakes are also necessary as part of your Integrated Pest Management system.
