What does "Waxed Dipped & Painted" mean?
Waggle & Forage run a preserving process on pine hive-ware that ensures longevity and protects your beehive from the harsh Australian weather. Once your beehive lid has been assembled, we dip the pine in 170 deg/Celsius of hot wax, consisting of 50% microcrystalline and 50% paraffin. Our Nuc supers are dipped for 10 minutes, at which point we elevate from the hot wax and pant immediately with a high quality oil based paint.
Any moisture in the pine is steamed out during the dipping phase. As we paint the pine immediately, the paint soaks into the pine and also bakes onto the surface.
Whilst we make no guarantee on the longevity of your hive-ware, we are proud to be using this well known and established standard for hive-ware preservation.
Important Shipping Note for Ready-To-Go Frames
Our beeswax foundation sheets travel well on their own, but when they’re pre-installed in frames, postage can sometimes be a little rough. Despite our best packing efforts, the wax foundations may crack in transit.
If receiving your foundations in perfect condition is essential, we recommend purchasing your frames and foundations separately and assembling them at home.
