Full Depth Rebated Super - Wax Dipped & Painted
Waggle & Forage's rebated beehive boxes are hot-wax dipped and painted by us, right here in Kyneton. We use a 50/50 mix of microcrystalline and paraffin and our supers are dipped at between 165-170 degC for 9 to 14 minutes (depending on the weight of the pine).
Made from sustainably grown New Zealand Radiata Pine and cut by Alliance Woodware (ProWood, NZ), we only use a premium quality, external oil-based paint. Our rebated supers are rated as "Standard" pine, which means they have visible knots on some sides. They are assembled by us right here in Kyneton, using Titebond III Ultimate Glue and 65mm screws.
Available in 8 & 10 frame options.
Difference Between Standard & Premium Pine
So what’s the difference between “Standard” and “Premium” bee boxes? Just the knots! All trees naturally grow knots and in the world of beekeeping, knots in the timber of your bee box has no negative impact on the integrity of the hive.
Some people prefer timber with no knots - and that’s ok. Others (especially commercial beekeepers) choose to buy standard pine beehive woodware as the quality is the same and yet the costs are lower.
Premium timber with no knots, costs more because there is less of it available. We proudly stock (and personally use) standard pine bee boxes as a sustainable, lower cost option.
