Telescopic Beehive Lid - Hot Wax Dipped & Painted

Crafted with care in Victoria, Waggle & Forage's Telescopic Beehive Lids are durable and functional. Designed to fit perfectly over 8-frame or 10-frame Langstroth beehive supers, the precise fit eliminates the pesky extra space where bees often build burr comb, keeping your hive neat and easier to manage.

Our lids are not just practical—they're built to last. Each lid is hot wax dipped and painted, providing superior protection against the elements. The hot wax dipping process deeply penetrates the wood, enhancing its resistance to moisture, rot, and pests, while the Colourbond metal top adds an extra layer of defense against harsh weather. This ensures your beehive stays in prime condition season after season, allowing your bees to thrive in a stable, well-protected environment.

We recommend using a Telescopic lid with a cover board underneath.

Using a cover board (also known as an inner cover) under a telescopic beehive lid offers several benefits:

  1. Insulation and Temperature Regulation: The cover board helps to regulate the temperature inside the hive by providing an additional layer of insulation. This is especially important in extreme weather conditions, helping to keep the hive warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

  2. Protection from the Elements: The cover board provides an extra layer of protection against the elements, shielding the bees from direct exposure to rain, snow, or intense sunlight that might penetrate through the telescopic lid.

  3. Prevents Propolis Buildup: Bees tend to seal gaps and cracks with propolis. By using a cover board, you minimize the amount of propolis buildup on the telescopic lid, making it easier to remove the lid for inspections without disturbing the bees.

  4. Feeder Compatibility: A cover board is often used in conjunction with a feeder. The small opening in the cover board allows you to place a feeder on top of the hive without completely exposing the bees, making it easier to feed them without causing too much disruption.
