Api-Bioxal® Solution – Oxalic Acid Drizzle 500ml

Api-Bioxal® Solution is a ready-to-use oxalic acid treatment designed to assist beekeepers in the control of Varroa mite in honey bee colonies. Trusted worldwide and aligned with current Australian beekeeping practices, this organic-based treatment is ideal for use during broodless periods when efficacy is at its highest.

Formulated with oxalic acid dihydrate as the active ingredient, Api-Bioxal® works by direct contact with phoretic mites on adult bees, helping to significantly reduce mite loads and support overall colony health.

Key Features

  • Ready-to-use liquid solution – no mixing required

  • Designed for dribble (trickle) application

  • Suitable for use in broodless or low-brood conditions

  • Organic acid treatment widely accepted in integrated pest management (IPM) programs

  • Convenient 500ml bottle for multiple hive treatments

Directions for Use

Api-Bioxal® Solution is applied via the dribble method:

  • Using a syringe or suitable applicator, apply 5ml per seam of bees (the space between frames occupied by bees)

  • Gently trickle the solution directly onto bees along the seams

  • Treat when colonies are broodless (e.g. winter or during brood breaks) for best results

  • Do not exceed recommended dosage, as overdosing may harm bees

Important: Each colony should typically be treated once per broodless period.

Efficacy

Oxalic acid treatments such as Api-Bioxal® are highly effective against phoretic mites, achieving strong mite knockdown when brood is absent. Because the treatment does not penetrate capped brood cells, timing is critical to maximise effectiveness.

When used correctly, Api-Bioxal® can form an essential part of a broader Varroa management strategy, helping to:

  • Reduce mite populations rapidly

  • Improve colony survival and productivity

  • Support long-term hive health when rotated with other treatments

Australian Use & Compliance

  • Use in accordance with relevant state and national regulations, including guidance from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) PERMIT NUMBER – PER94609

  • Always follow label instructions and any applicable permits for oxalic acid use in beehives

  • Observe any required withholding periods before harvesting honey

  • Ensure use aligns with your local biosecurity requirements for Varroa management

Safety & Handling

  • For external use in beehives only – not for human or veterinary medicinal use

  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and inhalation of vapours

  • Always wear appropriate PPE: gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing

  • Wash hands thoroughly after use

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from children and foodstuffs

First Aid:
If exposure occurs, rinse affected area thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.

Storage

  • Store below 25°C

  • Keep container tightly sealed when not in use

  • Protect from direct sunlight

Api-Bioxal® Solution provides beekeepers with a simple, effective and widely accepted option for managing Varroa mites—helping you protect your bees and maintain strong, productive colonies.
